Our New House!
I realised I didn’t write about the flat hunt and the new house we now live in!
How terrible of me!
We stayed in this lovely wee hostel after we got off the farm, and shared a room with a few people, but our main roommate was a sleazy, oafish, dim minded french man. He snored, and hit on me, and watched Illicit things on the internet in our room, with all the lights off and the curtains closed, in the middle of the day… Not the best person to share a room with. But the hostel its-self was really nice and breakfast was included which was a bonus!
We had only booked for a week, but ended up staying for 2… trying to find that perfect place to live with the perfect people that would undoubtedly become our best friends, teach us french and have the perfect contacts for jobs for us!! Hmmmm yeah….
The first place we visited, we got offered actually, and the guy who lived there seemed really nice, but it was in one of those huge apartment complexes where you feel a bit like a cog in the wheel of some horrible machine and he wanted us to sign a lease for the year, which didn’t sound like the best deal for us. Had it not been the first place we saw, if we’d seen it later in the week, we might have said yes, but we were feeling confident that if the first guy really liked us (even though he didn’t want a couple at first) then we’d be charming enough to get any old house we wanted, and it was just a matter of time before the perfect place came up.
Not so.
We saw a variety of places and the ones we loved didnt love us and the ones we didnt like… well THEY loved us. Typical.
And then we met Kevin. His house was not in the neighbourhood we wanted to live in, and he was not the young arty/musical/creative/friendly person we had imagined. but we were running out of money to stay at the hostel and running out of patience for our dear roommate and thought, “anything is better than this!” So we said yes to Kevin and Kevin said yes to us and that was that.
Our house from the outside!
Yes, Sam is wearing a necklace and holding a purse.
We got to paint our room, which was pretty cool. We painted it a really pale blue, with dark blue stripes on one wall. I dont think Kevin really likes it, he’s more of a grey (or perhaps white) man i think. But we love it!
And this, although totally unrelated, is a coffee sam got at Art Java on Ave du Mont-Royal! WOW!
