The old NEW new house

March 13th, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized

The end of  November was a wonderful time for us. The snow was beginning to fall, but we were still able to wear only one pair of socks if we wanted to leave the house (oh the joy!!!).

The hunt for a new house was under way, and with the thought of a, even slightly, less robotic room mate lodged in our brains, we were ready to face the world and find that montreal dream we came here for!

I have to admit now that we did feel a small ammount of guilt walking out on the robot. Leaving him in one of the hardest times to find a new roommate, the begining of winter, was not the kindest thing to do. But we had come to our witts end, and it was time to think of ourselves first.

So down to the our local Cafe lezard, to look on the internet there for flatmates. We were sitting playing “hunt for nice houses” when our lovely waitress came over and took our orders. Sam boldly asked “Do you know anyone looking for a coloc?” she looked confused and kind of walked off and had a chat to one of the other waiters. I was embarrassed and Sam was feeling a bit shut sown, untill she trotted back and said, “You can live with me, if you like.”

WOW

She didnt know how to say it english, so she had to go and ask… i think that was the story…

But that night we went around and had a look… and wow the difference.

Lucie and Carol were two francophones, living in the most splendidly dis ordered, colourful, flat. working to save, and saving to travel. How perfect. they didnt have a spare bedroom, just a livivng room with a fold out couch. and we were SO there!

we moved in a week later i think and it was, quite possibly, the best move of my life.

We did become a bit booze haggish for a wee while. we realised when we hadnt put the recycling out in a couple of weeks and there were 26 wine bottles in the recycle bin…..eeek.

but over all our time in that flat was a time i will always look back on with the fondest of memorys. every second night seemed to hold a new surprise, a new friend to meet, a new food to try, another new friend to make, a new word in french to learn, a new CD to listen to.

And how typical of me and sam, that it all came from frequenting a cafe, debatibly, too often.

oh the joy that coffee brings to our lives!

photos to come!!!!!!!
